Artificial Intelligence (AI) Transparency & Use Statement
Effective Date: September 2026
1. Our Commitment
At O’Connor Law we use technology to help us deliver efficient, secure and high-quality legal services.
This may include the use of artificial intelligence (“AI”) technologies to assist with administrative tasks, information management, document preparation, legal research support, client communications and other internal business processes.
We are committed to using AI responsibly and in accordance with:
- Regulation (EU) 2024/1689 (the EU AI Act);
- Regulation (EU) 2016/679 (General Data Protection Regulation – GDPR);
- The Data Protection Act 2018;
- The Solicitors Acts 1954-2024; and
- Applicable professional obligations and guidance issued by the Law Society of Ireland
AI is used only as an assistive technology and does not replace the professional judgment, legal expertise, ethical obligations or independent decision-making of a qualified solicitor.
2. Website Chatbot Notice
Important: If you interact with our website chatbot, you are interacting with an AI-assisted system and not with a solicitor or member of our staff. The chatbot is provided to assist with general enquiries, information gathering and navigation of our services.
Please note:
- The chatbot cannot provide legal advice.
- Information provided by the chatbot is for general informational purposes only.
- Responses may not be complete, accurate or up to date.
- You should not rely on chatbot responses when making legal decisions.
- Use of the chatbot does not create a solicitor-client relationship.
- Submission of information through the chatbot does not mean that the firm has agreed to act for you.
If you require legal advice, please contact O’Connor Law directly and speak with a solicitor.
3. Before You Submit Information
Before we can act for any client, we may be required to undertake conflict checks, identity verification, anti-money laundering checks and other regulatory procedures.
Accordingly, visitors should not submit highly confidential, sensitive or legally privileged information through the website chatbot unless specifically requested by a solicitor of this firm.
Until a formal solicitor-client relationship has been established, communications submitted through the chatbot or website may not receive the same protections that apply once we have formally accepted instructions.
4. How We Use AI
We may use approved AI-enabled technologies, including enterprise software solutions such as Microsoft 365 Copilot, to assist with:
- Administrative and operational tasks;
- Document organisation and summarisation;
- Drafting assistance;
- Research support;
- Information retrieval;
- Knowledge management; and
- Workflow and productivity improvements.
Any use of AI is subject to appropriate professional supervision and review. AI-generated content is never treated as a substitute for independent legal analysis or professional judgment.
5. Human Review and Professional Responsibility
AI systems can occasionally generate inaccurate, incomplete or misleading information.
For that reason:
- Legal advice is provided only by qualified solicitors.
- AI-generated content is reviewed and assessed by appropriate personnel before being relied upon.
- Legal authorities, case law, legislation and factual content must be independently verified.
- No legal opinion, court filing, contract or client advice is issued solely on the basis of AI-generated output.
Our solicitors remain professionally responsible for all legal services provided to clients regardless of whether AI-assisted tools have been used in any part of the process.
6. Privacy, Confidentiality and Data Protection
We recognise the importance of client confidentiality and data protection.
Where AI-assisted technologies are used, we seek to implement appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect personal data and confidential information.
Personal data is processed in accordance with applicable data protection legislation, including the GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018.
Further information regarding how personal information is collected, used and protected is available in our Privacy Notice.
7. Client Choice
Clients who have concerns about the use of AI-assisted technologies in the delivery of legal services are welcome to discuss those concerns with us.
Where appropriate and practicable, we will consider reasonable requests regarding the use of AI-assisted tools in connection with a client’s matter.
